Phase 2 Week 4
Day 17. Monday
Monday was a calm yet productive working day at school. As I did not have any regular teaching hours scheduled, I remained in the classroom as part of my duty and made effective use of the available time. During the first hour, I was assigned a substitution period, where I successfully managed the class and maintained proper discipline. The rest of the day was spent constructively by completing pending academic work and preparing lesson plans for upcoming classes. Although no special programmes or official events were conducted on this day, it provided valuable time for academic planning and professional responsibilities, making the day meaningful and well-utilized.
Day 18 Tuesday
The 18th day of teaching practice was engaging and productive, as I handled two periods with the 8th standard during the 4th and 6th hours. In the 4th period, I introduced the topic “Three Measures” from the chapter Ratios. Since it was a new concept for the students, the lesson was planned as a group activity to make the concept clear and interesting. This activity-based approach encouraged discussion, cooperation, and better understanding among the students.
During the 6th period, I conducted a problem-solving session based on the same topic. Students actively participated by discussing different methods, solving the problems collaboratively, and presenting their solutions. The active involvement of the students made the class lively and helped reinforce their understanding of the concept.
Day 19 Wednesday
The 19th day of teaching practice was productive and engaging. During the first period, I received a substitution period and taught the topic “Parts of a Line” from the chapter Ratio. The lesson was handled through group activities, which helped students understand the concept more effectively through discussion and peer learning.
In the second period, I again received a substitution in another class, where I maintained classroom discipline and meaningfully engaged the students. The third period was my assigned teaching hour, during which I continued the problem-solving session on “Parts of a Line.” The class was conducted using group activities, and students were able to solve the problems confidently and with ease. Overall, the day highlighted the effectiveness of activity-based learning and active student participation.
Day 20 Thursday
Today was a productive and meaningful day at school, as I reached the school on time and had a teaching hour during the second period in class 8F. On this day, my class was observed by our general teacher, Dr. Baiju C. The topic selected for the lesson was “Parts of a Triangle” from the chapter Ratio. Since the topic was interesting and appropriate for the students, the lesson was planned using group activities to promote active participation and better understanding.
After the group activity, I guided the students to solve a few application-level problems to reinforce the concept learned. Follow-up activities were also given to ensure further practice and consolidation of learning. The students showed good involvement and responded positively throughout the session.
After the class, my teacher shared valuable feedback and provided necessary instructions and recommendations for improvement. His suggestions were encouraging and will help me refine my teaching strategies in future classes. Overall, the day was academically enriching and professionally rewarding.
Day 21 Friday
Today was a productive day at school with both assessment and teaching responsibilities in class 8F. During the fifth period, I received a substitution period in the same class and conducted an achievement test for the students. The test was prepared for 25 marks and covered the chapters Circles and Decimal Forms. Students attempted the questions with interest and active involvement.
In the sixth period, which was my regular teaching hour, I handled a problem-based lesson on the previously learned topic “Parts of a Triangle.” The lesson included two problems and was conducted through group activities. Students actively discussed the problems within their groups and participated effectively in the learning process. No special programmes were conducted at the school on this day, making it a routine yet academically meaningful day.
