Phase 2. Week 2
Day 6 Monday
Although I did not have any regular teaching hours, I received a substitution period during the sixth hour in 8F. I utilized this period to teach Equal Chords from the chapter Circles.
The class was divided into groups, and a simple activity was conducted to demonstrate the concept effectively. An application-level problem related to the topic was also discussed to strengthen students’ understanding. Students actively participated in the session, making the class engaging and productive.
Day 7 Tuesday
I reached the school on time and had two regular teaching hours. During the fourth period, I handled a problem-based lesson on Equal Chords, where students were given two problems to solve and prove step by step. Students participated actively and engaged well with the activity.
In the sixth period, I continued with a short problem-based lesson on the same topic, which included one problem and was sufficient for the day. Overall, the day was productive, and I was satisfied with the students’ involvement and understanding.
Day 8 Wednesday
I reached the school on time and had a teaching hour during the third period. I taught the lesson Lines and the Circle from the chapter Circles. The class focused on constructing a circle passing through three non-collinear points and drawing a circle through two fixed points.
The lesson involved a drawing activity, which made the class interesting and encouraged active student participation. Students enjoyed the session and were fully engaged throughout the lesson.
Day 9 Thursday
I handled the second hour in class 8F on the topic Circumcircle. The lesson began with a quick recall of perpendicular bisectors of the sides of a triangle. I then demonstrated the construction of the circumcenter by drawing a triangle and constructing its perpendicular bisectors.
Students followed the steps in their notebooks using a compass and scale. They showed keen interest in the drawing activity, and most of them completed the construction accurately. I explained that the point of intersection of the perpendicular bisectors is the circumcenter, which is the centre of the circle passing through all three vertices of the triangle.
The class concluded with a brief summary of the steps and clarification of doubts. Overall, the session was smooth and interactive.
Day 10 Friday
The day was special as the school celebrated Children’s Day with various programs. In the morning, a Children’s Day rally was conducted from Chinakkada to College Junction. Students participated enthusiastically, wearing colorful and creative costumes. The school band and students from SPC, NCC, and JRC also took part in the rally. While some students joined the rally, others remained in their classrooms. After the rally, several cultural programs were conducted on the school stage.
Along with the celebrations, I had a teaching hour during the sixth period in class 8F. I taught a constructivist model lesson on constructing different types of triangles and drawing their circumcircle. During the same period, I also solved a problem from the chapter Circles. With this class, I successfully completed the chapter Circles.
The day was both productive and memorable, combining joyful celebrations with effective classroom learning. I left the school at the usual time.
Day 11 Saturday
It was a working Saturday, and the Friday timetable was followed. Student attendance was low as it was a weekend. I did not have any regular teaching hours, but I handled a substitution class in another division. The school dispersed at 12:30 p.m.
